Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
Without load/inflation markings, owners may overload the tire which could result in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.
Yokohama Tire Corporation (Yokohama) is recalling certain 7.50R16 RY215 tires manufactured January 1, 2006, through August 1, 2011.
These tires are missing the “DOT” prefix, the required load/inflation information and do not list the material and number of structural plies.
Thus, these tires fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard, No. 119, “New Pneumatic Tires for Motor Vehicles with a GVWR of more than 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) and Motorcycles.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
