Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
Tire shoulder tread chunking could cause a tire failure and increase the risk of a crash.
Federal Corporation is recalling certain Couragia A/T tires, size P265/75R16 116S, DOT Serial Numbers UX77 3210-UX770813.
In the affected tires, excessive heat causes tread shoulder chunking.
Thus, these tires fail to conform to the durability test requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 139, “New Pneumatic Radial Tires for Light Vehicles.”

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
