The short answer

NHTSA received Extang Corporation’s report on Dec 9, 2013. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

If the cover separates from the truck bed, it may become a road hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

Extang Corporation (Extang) is recalling certain Encore Tonneau Covers sold as an aftermarket accessory for pick-up trucks.

The Encore cover is a hard-panel, tri-fold cover whose front and rear panels open to allow access to the truck bed.

The subject covers have a front panel that may become unsecured while driving, allowing wind to lift and separate the covers from the truck beds.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
