The short answer
NHTSA received Newmar Corporation’s report on Sep 24, 2012. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
As the brakes heat up, they may self-engage, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Newmar is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Dutch Star and 2009-2010 Dutch Aire motorhomes, built on a Spartan chassis equipped with a Hendrickson independent front suspension.
The front brake chambers may contact the upper control arm of the independent front suspension.
Continued contact may result in damage sufficient enough to prevent the full release of the brakes.
If the brakes do not fully release, as they drag, heat could be generated causing the brakes to engage even further.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
