The short answer

NHTSA received NEW FLYER INDUSTRIES LTD’s report on Sep 24, 2012. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Failure of the turbine or compressor wheel may result in smoke, fire, or stalling; possibly leading to a vehicle crash.

New Flyer is recalling certain model year 2005-2006 C40LF and 2006 C40LFR transit buses, equipped with John Deere 8.1 liter turbocharged, compressed natural gas engines, model number 6081HFN04, manufactured from June 2002 through January 2008.

Failures can occur within the engine turbocharger.

The turbine or compressor wheel may fail, resulting in damage to the engine and/or an oil leak.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
