The short answer

NHTSA received Vermeer Manufacturing Company’s report on Sep 20, 2012. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Wear on the kingpin may result in its failure, which could allow the trailer to separate from the towing vehicle, possibly striking another vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander, causing property damage and/or personal injury.

Vermeer is recalling two model year 2012 and one model year 2013 HG6000TX horizontal grinder trailers, manufactured from July 20, 2012, through August 21, 2012, equipped with a dolly transport option.

Due to incorrect machining, the kingpin used with the assembly that converts the tracked grinder into a trailer can experience excessive wear.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
