The short answer
NHTSA received SPARTAN CHASSIS, INC.’s report on Sep 4, 2012. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
As the brakes self-engage, the driver could lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Spartan is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 K2 and MM motor home chassis, equipped with a Hendrickson independent front suspension.
The front brake chambers may contact the upper control arm of the independent front suspension.
Continued contact may result in damage sufficient enough to inhibit the full release of the brakes.
If the brakes do not fully release, as they drag, heat could be generated causing the brakes to engage even further.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
