The short answer

NHTSA received KOVATCH MOBILE EQUIPMENT CORP’s report on Jun 4, 2012. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THE VEHICLE MAY DEVIATE FROM THE INTENDED LINE OF TRAVEL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

KOVATCH MOBILE EQUIPMENT CORPORATION (KME) IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2010-2011 PREDATOR, PREDATOR SS, PREDATOR PANTHER, AND PREDATOR XL EMERGENCY VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM MARCH 1, 2010 THROUGH OCTOBER 10, 2011, EQUIPPED WITH FEATURE CODE 04AZX MERITOR WABCO ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) UNITS.

UNDER CERTAIN ROAD AND DRIVING CONDITIONS, VEHICLE BODY ROLL AND ROAD INCLINATION CHARACTERISTICS MAY ADVERSELY AFFECT THE SLIP ANGLE CALCULATION OF THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) SYSTEM.

THIS MIGHT CAUSE THE ESC TO PERCEIVE AN OVER STEERING SITUATION AND THEREFORE APPLY THE OUTER WHEEL BRAKE ON THE FRONT AXLE UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS PERCEIVED TO BE STABLE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
