The short answer

NHTSA received FOREST RIVER, INC.’s report on May 10, 2012. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

AS A RESULT, THE LINE MAY BREAK AND LEAK L.P. GAS WHICH MAY CAUSE FIRE, INJURY, OR DEATH.

FOREST RIVER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 AND 2013 SURVEYOR TRAVEL TRAILERS, MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 12, 2011, THROUGH APRIL 6, 2012.

ON CERTAIN FLOOR PLANS, THE LIQUID PROPANE (LP) GAS LINE WAS ROUTED AND FASTENED ALONG THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME RAIL.

WHEN THE TRAILER HITS A BUMP, THE POSITIONING OF THE LP GAS LINE MAY ALLOW THE “U” BOLT ON THE AXLE TO PINCH THE LINE BETWEEN THE MAIN RAIL AND THE “U” BOLT.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
