Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
REDUCED BRAKING ABILITY COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
MCNEILUS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2012 AUTOCAR ACX TRUCKS, MANUFACTURED FROM MARCH 17, 2011, THROUGH FEBRUARY 10, 2012.
THE REFUSE TRUCK MANUFACTURING PROCESS MAY REQUIRE THAT THE TAG AXLE ON THE CHASSIS BE REMOVED.
DURING REMOVAL, TWO AIR LINES MUST BE REINSTALLED IN THE CORRECT LOCATION.
IF THE AIR LINES ARE RECONNECTED INCORRECTLY, THE TAG AXLE BRAKES WILL BE APPLIED WHEN THE TAG AXLE IS LIFTED, BUT WILL NOT FUNCTION WHEN THE TAG IS AXLE IS LOWERED.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
