The short answer

NHTSA received YOKOHAMA TIRE CORPORATION’s report on Oct 2, 2012. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Rapid air loss while the vehicle is in use may result in a tire failure that could cause a crash.

Yokohama Tire Corporation (Yokohama) is recalling certain AVID Touring S tires, size 215/65R16 98T SL, produced between February 2009 and April 2009.

The tires may have been produced with an irregular geometry in the casing turn up area above the tire bead in the lower sidewall.

This irregular geometry may lead to a lower sidewall crack resulting in a rapid loss of tire inflation.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
