The short answer

NHTSA received HERCULES TIRE & RUBBER COMPANY’s report on Aug 8, 2012. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

The presence of this condition may precipitate the formation of voids (U crack) which could result in early life sidewall separations, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Hercules Tire & Rubber Company (Hercules) is recalling certain H502 radial medium tubeless truck tires, size 315/80R22.5 Load Range J, produced in the DOT week ending dates 5211 thru 2112.

The affected tires may have been produced with an insufficient tire liner gauge (thickness) due to an improperly working machine.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
