The short answer

NHTSA received PACCAR Incorporated’s report on Nov 23, 2012. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

Without proper rim markings, owners may not be able to identify affected wheels in the event of a wheel recall. Defective or noncompliant wheels that are not remedied are at an increased risk of performance failure, and thereby increase the risk of a crash or other safety hazard to motorists.

PACCAR is recalling certain TRP branded aluminum wheels sold for resale in the aftermarket with one of the following part numbers AW2258B, AW2258M, AW2458B, or AW2458M.

The rim markings on these wheels were etched to a depth less than the minimum requirements.

Thus, these wheels fail to conform to the rim marking requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 120, “Tire Selection and Rims for Motor Vehicles Other Than Passenger Cars.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
