The short answer

NHTSA received MEDIX SPECIALTY VEHICLES, INC.’s report on Dec 2, 2011. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

USE OF A NON-CONFORMING SEAT BELT MAY INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE SEAT OCCUPANT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH.

MEDIX IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007-2011 TYPE II AMBULANCES, MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 1, 2007, THROUGH NOVEMBER 16, 2011.

DUE TO OVERSIGHT, MEDIX INSTALLED SEATS IN A REAR FACING POSITION IN THE PATIENT COMPARTMENT WITH A TYPE I (LAP BELT ONLY) SEAT BELT CONFIGURATION.

THEREFORE, THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NUMBER 208, “OCCUPANT CRASH PROTECTION.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
