The short answer

NHTSA received MOTOR COACH INDUSTRIES, INC’s report on Nov 10, 2011. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THIS CORROSION MAY CREATE A SHORT CIRCUIT BETWEEN THE POWER STUD AND THE ALTERNATOR BODY, WHICH IN TURN COULD RESULT IN BURNING OF THE POWER STUD OR THE POWER CABLE END. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A FIRE. ADDITIONALLY, THE VEHICLE BATTERY COULD DISCHARGE WHICH COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO STALL.

MOTOR COACH INDUSTRIES (MCI) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010-2011 D4505 MOTOR COACHES MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 1, 2010, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2011.

THESE VEHICLES WERE EQUIPPED WITH PENNTEX ALTERNATORS THAT, AS INSTALLED, MAY COLLECT MOISTURE AT THE POWER STUD.

THIS MOISTURE MAY RESULT IN CORROSION BUILDUP AT AND AROUND THE POWER STUD BASE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
