The short answer

NHTSA received CORP. MICRO BIRD, INC.’s report on Sep 19, 2011. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

IF THE SEAT CUSHION IS NOT FULLY LATCHED TO THE SEAT STRUCTURE, IT COULD FLIP UP OUT OF POSITION IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS.

MICRO BIRD IS RECALLING CERTAIN 2010 AND 2011 MICRO BIRD G5 AND MICRO BIRD MBII SCHOOL BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 14, 2010, THROUGH JUNE 7, 2011, EQUIPPED WITH A C.

E.

WHITE SEAT CUSHION.

THE SEAT CUSHION SELF-LATCHING MECHANISM DOES NOT ACTIVATE WHEN A 48.4 POUND MASS IS PLACED ON THE CENTER OF THE SEAT CUSHION AND ACCORDINGLY, THESE SEATS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NUMBER 222, “SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
