What’s wrong with it?
THIS UNINTENDED MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING COLUMN MAY INTERFERE WITH THE DRIVERS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND INCREASE RISK OF A CRASH.
GILLIG IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 LOW FLOOR BUSES MANUFACTURED FROM JUNE 13, 2011, THROUGH AUGUST 12, 2011, EQUIPPED WITH TRW TC34023 STEERING COLUMNS WITH DATE CODES STARTING 157 1 11 AND ENDING 228 1 11.
THE TOOTH PROFILE AND SPACING OF THE TILT LOCK TEETH ON THE SUPPORT BRACKET MAY BE INCORRECT, PREVENTING THE TILT LOCK BAR FROM FULLY ENGAGING.
THIS MAY ALLOW THE STEERING COLUMN TO SLIP FROM THE DRIVER- SET TILT LOCATION AND MOVE UPWARD UNTIL IT LOCKS IN ANOTHER TILT POSITION.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
