The short answer

NHTSA received PACCAR INCORPORATED’s report on Aug 1, 2011. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

A PARTIALLY COUPLED FIFTH WHEEL MAY RESULT IN A TRAILER UNEXPECTEDLY SEPARATING FROM THE TRACTOR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

PACCAR IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 KENWORTH T700 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH FONTAINE ULTRA LT MODEL FIFTH WHEEL MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 5, 2010, THROUGH OCTOBER 13, 2010.

DURING THE TRAILER COUPLING PROCESS, IT IS POSSIBLE FOR A DRIVER TO PARTIALLY CLOSE THE FONTAINE ULTRA LT MODEL FIFTH WHEEL AROUND THE TRAILER KINGPIN WITHOUT THE FIFTH WHEEL BEING FULLY ENGAGED AND LOCKED.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
