The short answer

NHTSA received FORD MOTOR COMPANY’s report on Apr 20, 2011. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 27, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH OR OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES OF SEVERE LOADING, THE WORM GEAR COULD FRACTURE AND ALLOW THE SEAT TO SHIFT UNRESTRAINED FORWARD OR BACKWARD INCREASING THE RISK AND/OR SEVERITY OF INJURIES TO THE DRIVER.

FORD IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 E-150, E-250, E-350 AND E-450 TRUCKS FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 207, “SEATING SYSTEMS.” IT MAY BE POSSIBLE THAT UNDER UNUSUALLY HIGH LOADS, SUCH AS DURING A CRASH, THE DRIVER POWER SEAT TRACK WORM GEAR MAY FRACTURE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
