The short answer

NHTSA received HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)’s report on Mar 15, 2011. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, COULD RESULT IN A FIRE.

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 HONDA CIVIC VEHICLES.

TO PREVENT FUEL FROM LEAKING OUT OF A VEHICLE’S FUEL TANK INTO THE EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS CANISTER IN THE EVENT A ROLL-OVER INCIDENT OCCURS, THE FUEL PUMP MODULE IS EQUIPPED WITH A ROLL OVER VALVE (ROV).

DUE TO IMPROPER ULTRASONIC WELDING OF THE PLASTIC CASE THAT HOUSES THE ROV WITHIN THE FUEL PUMP MODULE, THE CASE MATERIAL MAY BREAK OR CRACK, WHICH MAY CAUSE THE ROV TO SEPARATE FROM THE CASE AND FAIL TO FUNCTION, THEREBY INCREASING THE RISK OF FUEL LEAKAGE IN A ROLL-OVER INCIDENT.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
