What’s wrong with it?
THE E/H BRAKE ACTUATOR PROVIDES BRAKING POWER TO THE TRAILER BRAKES. FAILURE OF THE ACTUATOR CAN RESULT IN THE LOSS OF BRAKING EFFORT BY THE TRAILER, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
DEXTER AXLE IS RECALLING CERTAIN ELECTRIC/HYDRAULIC (E/H) BRAKE ACTUATOR PUMPS SOLD FOR USE ON VARIOUS TRAILERS.
SOME OF THESE PUMPS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY HEAT TREATED.
THIS CONDITION CAN CAUSE PREMATURE WEAR OF SOME CRITICAL COMPONENTS IN THESE PUMPS WHICH CAN RENDER THE UNIT INOPERABLE.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
