The short answer

NHTSA received PARKER HANNIFIN CANADA’s report on Dec 28, 2011. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

WITHOUT WARNING MESSAGES, THE DRIVER MAY CONTINUE TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT GOES INTO A SAFE MODE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A REDUCTION OF POWER OR POSSIBLY A STALL. EITHER CONDITION INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.

PARKER HANNIFIN IS RECALLING CERTAIN INSTRUMENT PANELS, PART NUMBER 385755, DEVELOPED SPECIFICALLY FOR USE ON NEW FLYER TRANSIT BUSES.

DUE TO A SOFTWARE DESIGN DEFECT, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL MAY NOT, UNDER UNIQUE AND ABNORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, DISPLAY WARNNG MESSAGES WHICH HAVE BEEN TRANSMITTED IN AN EXTENDED BYTE FORMAT.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
