The short answer
NHTSA received ACCURIDE CORPORATION’s report on May 10, 2011. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
A WHEEL WITHOUT AN ATTACHMENT WELD WILL NOT HAVE THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY TO SUPPORT THE LOAD OF THE VEHICLE AND THE TIRE. ANY SIGNIFICANT SIDE FORCE ON THE WHEEL DURING NORMAL OPERATING CONDITIONS AND LOADS COULD CAUSE THE DISC TO DISENGAGE FROM THE RIM. IF THE RIM AND DISC SEPARATE, THE RIM COULD COME OFF THE VEHICLE POSSIBLY CAUSING A CRASH RESULTING IN PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR DEATH.
ACCURIDE IS RECALLING ONE TUBELESS DUPLEX WHEEL, SIZE 22.5 X 14.00 15 DEGREE, WITH ACCURIDE PART NUMBER 29627.
THE WHEEL IS COMPOSED OF A RIM THAT SUPPORTS THE TIRE AND A DISC THAT ARE WELDED INTO A ONE PIECE ASSEMBLY.
THE ATTACHMENT WELD BETWEEN THE DISC AND THE RIM IS MISSING.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
