What’s wrong with it?
THIS CAN RESULT IN SEAM WELD FRACTURE WHEN TORQUE IS APPLIED. ONCE THE TUBE SEAM WELD IS FRACTURED, THE DRIVELINE MAY BECOME INOPERABLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
MERITOR IS RECALLING CERTAIN DRIVELINE ASSEMBLIES, PART NUMBERS RPL25, 18N, AND 18MXL, SOLD AS AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT FOR USE ON, OR INSTALLED AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON, VARIOUS HEAVY TRUCKS.
THE TUBING USED TO ASSEMBLE THE AFFECTED DRIVELINES HAS A NONCONFORMING SEAM WELD WITH INSUFFICIENT BONDING OF THE MATERIAL.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
