The short answer

NHTSA received ALTEC INDUSTRIES INC.’s report on Nov 23, 2010. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

FAILURE OF THE GLUE BOND AND FASTENERS COULD RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE FIBERGLASS LINK FROM THE STEEL INSERTS. AS A RESULT, THE PLATFORM ON WHICH A SERVICE TECHNICIAN WOULD STAND COULD FAIL DURING USE RESULTING IN DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY.

ALTEC IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 1998-2008 AERIAL DEVICES VEHICLES BUILT FROM JANUARY 1998 THROUGH MAY 2008.

THE GLUE BOND JOINT IN THE INSULATING ARM LINK MAY FAIL OVER TIME.

THE CONNECTION IS ALSO SECURED BY EIGHT BOLTS, BUT WITH THE LOSS OF THE GLUE BOND, THE FASTENERS COULD FATIGUE OVER TIME AND FAIL.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
