The short answer

NHTSA received VOLVO TRUCKS NORTH AMERICA’s report on Aug 3, 2010. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 28, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THE UPPER WINDOW HINGES MAY FAIL AND ALLOW THE GLASS TO FALL OUT OF THE WINDOW FRAME CREATING A ROAD HAZARD AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

VOLVO TRUCKS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2010 VNL, VT, AND 780 TRUCKS MANUFACTURED FROM MARCH 1, 2008 THROUGH FEBRUARY 6, 2009.

THE BOTTOM TRACK THAT ATTACHES TO THE ARMS USED TO OPEN AND CLOSE THE WINDOW MAY DE-BOND, WHICH RESULTS IN THE GLASS COMING LOOSE AT THE BOTTOM.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
