What’s wrong with it?
A REDUCTION OF STEERING CONTROL INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.
NAVISTAR IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 AND 2011 INTERNATIONAL 4300M, 8600, LONESTAR AND PROSTAR BRAND TRUCKS MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 6, 2009 THROUGH MAY 25, 2010.
THE FASTENER THAT CLAMPS THE PITMAN ARM TO THE STEERING GEAR SHAFT MAY HAVE BEEN UNDERTORQUED UPON ASSEMBLY.
AN UNDER TORQUE CONDITION MAY CAUSE WEAR OF THE INTERCONNECTING SPLINES OF THE ARM AND THE SHAFT POSSIBLY ALLOWING THE PITMAN ARM TO SLIP OVER THE SHAFT RESULTING IN A REDUCTION OF STEERING CONTROL.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
