The short answer
NHTSA received HINO MOTORS SALES U.S.A., INC.’s report on Apr 15, 2010. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
IF THE DRIVE COUPLER BOLTS WERE TO LOOSEN IT COULD CAUSE A VIBRATION IN THE DRIVELINE. IF THIS VIBRATION WERE IGNORED, THE DRIVE COUPLER BOLTS COULD SHEAR AND THE COUPLING BETWEEN THE ENGINE AND TORQUE CONVERTER WOULD NOT TRANSMIT POWER. THIS ULTIMATELY COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
HINO IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 NV8J TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH ALLISON 3000 RDS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.
THE DRIVE COUPLER BOLTS MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PROPERLY TIGHTENED AT THE FACTORY DUE TO THE INCORRECT TOOL POSSIBLY BEING USED DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
