The short answer

NHTSA received BRIDGESTONE AMERICAS TIRE OPERATION, LLC’s report on Jun 25, 2010. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

OVER TIME, THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN THE DETERIORATION OF THE BODY PLY CORD, CREATING THE POTENTIAL FOR AIR LOSS AT THE LOCATION OF THE DIMPLE. AIR LOSS IN THE TIRE WILL INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

BRIDGESTONE AMERICA IS RECALLING CERTAIN BRIDGESTONE R192 TRUCK/BUS TIRES, SIZE 275/70R22.5 USED ON INTRA-CITY TRANSIT BUSES.

THESE TIRES FEATURE A SIDEWALL WEAR INDICATOR (DIMPLE) THAT IS USED BY TECHNICIANS TO MONITOR SIDEWALL WEAR.

THE SPECIFIED DEPTH OF THE SUBJECT TIRE’S DIMPLES MAY RESULT IN EXPOSED BODY PLY CORD.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
