The short answer

NHTSA received PACCAR INCORPORATED’s report on Dec 23, 2009. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 28, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THE INSUFFICIENT CLAMP LOAD MAY ALLOW THE FASTENER(S) TO BECOME LOOSE AND FALL AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE RESULTING IN ROAD DEBRIS. IF MULTIPLE FASTENERS WERE TO BECOME LOOSE, THE VEHICLE STEERING MAY WANDER, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

KENWORTH IS RECALLING MODEL YEAR 2010 T2000, T800, T660 AND W900S TRUCKS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY 1 AND OCTOBER 23, 2009.

THE FASTENERS ATTACHING THE STEERING GEAR TO THE FRONT DRIVE BRACKET MAY HAVE RECEIVED INSUFFICIENT TORQUE DURING THE INSTALLATION PROCESS RESULTING IN LESS THAN REQUIRED CLAMP LOAD.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
