The short answer

NHTSA received TEREX LOAD KING’s report on May 5, 2009. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

MALFUNCTION OF THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

TEREX IS RECALLING 17 MY 2009 DFPR, DFPR SF, DFPR CA, DFP HD, LFPR AND HFT85-3 TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH HALDEX AIR BRAKE SYSTEM CONTROL VALVE.

THE RUBBER DIAPHRAGM USED INSIDE THE QUICK RELEASE VALVE (QRV) MAY DELAMINATE AND MAY CAUSE LEAKAGE LEVELS PAST AND/OR THROUGH THE DIAPHRAGM IN EXCESS OF PERMISSIBLE SPECIFICATIONS, OR COULD CAUSE A RESTRICTION IN THE AIR FLOW, THEREBY EFFECTING PRESSURE DELIVERY TO THE SERVICE BRAKES AND NOT ALLOW THE SERVICE BRAKES TO RELEASE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
