The short answer

NHTSA received JONWAY MOTORCYCLE’s report on Apr 21, 2009. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

IF THE LINE IS RUBBED THROUGH, THE FRONT BRAKE MAY NOT OPERATE PROPERLY WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

JONWAY IS RECALLING 180 MY 2008 SUNNY SCOOTERS.

SOME OF THESE SCOOTERS MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED WITHOUT A RETAINER CLIP DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE FROM COMING INTO CONTACT WITH THE FRONT TIRE.

IN THE SCOOTERS WHERE THE RETAINER CLIP WAS NOT INSTALLED, THE BRAKE LINE MAY RUB AGAINST THE FRONT TIRE AND DAMAGE THE LINE.

What should you do?

OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED TO TAKE THEIR SCOOTERS TO DEALERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FRONT BRAKE LINE AND ITS ROUTING. A RETAINER CLIP WILL BE INSTALLED ON ANY SCOOTERS WITHOUT THOSE CLIPS, AND ANY DAMAGED BRAKE LINES WILL BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 15, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT JONWAY AT 972-408-6804.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
