The short answer

NHTSA received DAIMLER TRUCKS NORTH AMERICA’s report on Jun 17, 2008. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

IMPROPER HEIGHT ON THE HEADLIGHTS MAY NOT FULLY ILLUMINATE ROAD SURFACE OR MAY INHIBIT THE ABILITY OF MOTORISTS TO SEE VEHICLES WHICH CAN INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

DAIMLER TRUCKS IS RECALLING 172 MY 2008-2009 BUSINESS CLASS M2 106 ALL WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH CUMMINS ISC ENGINES AND HIGHWAY HOODS.

THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, ‘LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.’ THE HEADLIGHTS MEASURE GREATER THAN 54” FROM THE ROAD SURFACE WHICH DOES NOT MEET THE STANDARD REQUIREMENTS.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
