The short answer

NHTSA received AUTOCAR, LLC’s report on Nov 2, 2007. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

DUE TO THE ERROR IN GVWR LABELING, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT A VEHICLE COULD BE OVERLOADED WITHOUT THE VEHICLE OPERATOR’S KNOWLEDGE. A VEHICLE IN AN OVERLOADED CONDITION MAY BE SUSCEPTIBLE TO COMPONENT FAILURE THAT MAY RESULT IN LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

CERTAIN TRUCKS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH REQUIREMENTS OF PART 568, ‘VEHICLES MANUFACTURED IN TWO OR MORE STAGES, ALL INCOMPLETE, INTERMEDIATE AND FINAL-STAGE MANUFACTURERS OF VEHICLES MANUFACTURED IN TWO OR MORE STAGES.’ THE GROSS VEHICLE WEIGHT RATING (GVWR) LABEL, AS APPLIED, MAY NOT BE ACCURATE.

THE GVWR LABEL MAY INDICATE THAT THE VEHICLE’S LOAD CAPACITY IS HIGHER THAN THE DESIGNED WEIGHT RATING.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
