The short answer

NHTSA received BIG TEX TRAILER MANUFACTURING, INC.’s report on Jul 17, 2007. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 26, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

A FAILURE OF THE RAMP HANGER POCKETS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE TO INCLUDE PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE OR BOTH.

ON CERTAIN FLATBED UTILITY TRAILERS, THERE IS AN INSUFFICIENT WELD OF THE RAMP HANGER POCKETS THAT STORE THE RAMPS WHEN NOT IN USE ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT UNDERSIDE OF THE TRAILER BED.

IF THE WELD IS INSUFFICIENT, IT COULD CAUSE THE RAMP HANGER POCKET TO DETACH, DROPPING THE RAMP TO THE GROUND OR ROADWAY.

What should you do?

DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND ADD TWO ‘HAT BRACKETS’ (ONE UNDER EACH HANGER POCKET) BY BOLTING THE BRACKET TO THE UNDERSIDE OF EACH AFFECTED TRAILER TO FURTHER SECURE THE RAMP POCKETS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 15, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BIG TEX TRAILERS AT 1-800-594-5637.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
