NHTSA received JAYCO, INC.’s report on Jan 4, 2007. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
THIS COULD RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE TOWED VEHICLE FROM THE MOTOR HOME WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH, INJURY OR DEATH.
ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES, THE DISTANCE FROM THE REAR CAP TO THE HITCH RECEIVER ENCOURAGES THE USE OF LONGER BALL MOUNTS AND/OR EXTENSIONS.
THE LONGER THE BALL MOUNT AND/OR EXTENSIONS USED, THE GREATER THE FORCES THAT ARE APPLIED TO THE FASTENERS THAT ATTACH THE HITCH TO THE MAIN CHASSIS RAILS.
THESE INCREASED FORCES EXCEED THE ALLOWABLE FORCES PERMITTED IN THE FASTENERS.
WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE FASTENERS MAY STRETCH, LOOSEN, OR BREAK CAUSING AN UNSAFE TOWING CONDITION OR SEPARATION OF THE HITCH FROM THE MOTOR HOME.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
