The short answer

NHTSA received FOREIGN TIRE SALES, INC’s report on Jun 11, 2007. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THE TREAD MAY SEPARATE FROM THE TIRE WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL, A VEHICLE CRASH, PROPERTY DAMAGE, INJURY OR DEATH.

CERTAIN FOREIGN TIRE SALES (FTS) TIRES WERE MANUFACTURED WITHOUT A GUM STRIP OR WITH AN INSUFFICIENT GUM STRIP BETWEEN THE BELTS OR OTHER CONSTRUCTION TO KEEP THE BELTS FROM SEPARATING.

ONLY TIRES WITH A DATE CODE BETWEEN 0404 AND 0206 ARE INVOLVED.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
