The short answer

NHTSA received RC COMPONENTS’s report on Jun 7, 2007. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

AS A RESULT, ADDITIONAL STRESS WOULD BE PLACED ON THE WELDS CAUSING RAPID WEAR AND POSSIBLE JOINT SEPARATION. FRAME SEPARATION OF THE NECK, DOWN TUBE, AND BACKBONE JOINTS COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER TO LOSE STEERING AND CONTROL OF THE BIKE, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.

CERTAIN RC COMPONENTS MOTORCYCLE FRAMES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JANUARY 2003 AND SEPTEMBER 2005 SOLD AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT.

THE FACTORY-INSTALLED WELDED GUSSET PLATE CONNECTING THE FRAME BACKBONE, NECK, AND DOWN TUBE IS MISSING.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
