The short answer

NHTSA received DUTCHMEN MANUFACTURING, INC.’s report on Dec 22, 2006. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 25, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THIS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE TRAILER.

ON CERTAIN RECREATIONAL TRAILERS, A FURNACE VENT WAS NOT INSTALLED.

THE LACK OF AN EXHAUST VENT ALLOWS FURNACE COMBUSTION PRODUCTS CONTAINING CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES TO VENT INTO THE TRAILER.

What should you do?

OWNERS WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO VISUALLY CHECK FOR THE PRESENCE OF THE EXHAUST VENT ON THE EXTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. IF THE EXHAUST VENT IS NOT PRESENT OR IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, THE OWNER WILL BE INSTRUCTED NOT TO USE THE FURNACE AND TO TAKE THEIR TRAILER TO THE NEAREST DUTCHMEN DEALER OR SERVICE CENTER FOR REPAIR. THE RECALL BEGAN ON DECEMBER 31, 2006. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT DUTCHMEN AT 1-219-534-1224.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
