The short answer

NHTSA received NISSAN DIESEL AMERICA, INC’s report on Dec 4, 2006. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THIS MAY MISLEAD THE VEHICLE OPERATOR INTO PLACING THE SHIFT LEVER INTO THE INDICATED PARK POSITION AND EXITING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT APPLYING THE PARKING BRAKE. THIS COULD CAUSE UNEXPECTED OR UNCONTROLLED MOVEMENT OF THE VEHICLE WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING WHICH MAY RESULT IN VEHICLE CRASH.

CERTAIN MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH THE ALLISON SERIES 2500 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DO NOT HAVE A PARK POSITION AVAILABLE INSIDE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION.

THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER CONTROL ASSEMBLY INDICATING A PARK POSITION IS AVAILABLE FOR SELECTION BY THE VEHICLE OPERATOR.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
