The short answer

NHTSA received GIRARDIN MINIBUS INC.’s report on Feb 2, 2006. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

IF THE WELDMENT BREAKS OR FALLS OFF, THE COMPRESSOR AND VACUUM PUMP COULD SHIFT CAUSING THE MISALIGNMENT AND EVENTUAL LOSS OF THE DRIVE BELT, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN THE LOSS OF OR IMPEDANCE TO THE VEHICLE’S PRIMARY BRAKING SYSTEM, AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH.

CERTAIN GIRARDIN 2004 AND 2005 MB IV SCHOOL AND COMMERCIAL BUSES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY 6, 2004, AND FEBRUARY 10, 2005, EQUIPPED WITH CARRIER COMPRESSOR MOUNT BRACKETS, P/N 86-62400-00.

THIS WELD IS USED TO MOUNT THE SECONDARY COMPRESSOR FOR THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM ON TO THE ENGINE.

IF THE INSTALLER DOES NOT ADEQUATELY TORQUE THE MOUNTING HARDWARE OR THERE IS A POOR QUALITY WELD AT THE WELDMENT’S SUPPORT TAB, THE WELDMENT CAN BREAK OR FALL OFF.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
