The short answer

NHTSA received GPX INTERNATIONAL TIRE CORPORATION’s report on Mar 7, 2006. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THE TIRE MAY NOT BE STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND ROAD HAZARD IMPACTS WHICH COULD RESULT IN RAPID AIR LOSS, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

CERTAIN GPX GALAXY TRAILER SPECIAL TIRES (GPX P/N 600557) SIZE 8-14.5 MANUFACTURED BETWEEN MAY 2004 AND AUGUST 2005 SOLD FOR ORIGINAL INSTALLATION ON CERTAIN ECONOLINE TRAILERS AND SOLD IN THE AFTERMARKET AS REPLACEMENT TIRES.

THESE TIRES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE TIRE’S AVERAGE BRAKING ENERGY VALUE REQUIREMENT OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 119, “NEW PNEUMATIC TIRES FOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS.”

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
