What’s wrong with it?
IF THE FITTING FAILS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN USE, THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM COULD DEPRESSURIZE, CAUSING THE BRAKES TO ENGAGE SUDDENLY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
CERTAIN BRASSCRAFT CANADA BRASS STREET T PIPE FITTINGS, MODEL NO. 225-6, PRODUCED BETWEEN MAY 25 AND AUGUST 14, 2006, DESIGNED TO BE USED IN TRAILER AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS.
THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEMS CONTAINING THE DEFECTIVE PIPE FITTING WERE SOLD AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT FOR USE ON VARIOUS TRUCKS AND TRAILERS AND ALSO SOLD AS A REPLACEMENT PART.
DURING MANUFACTURE, SOME OF THE PIPE FITTINGS WERE DRILLED TOO DEEP, RESULTING IN A THIN WALL IN THE MALE PIPE THREAD.
THE MALE PIPE THREAD MAY BREAK OFF DURING OR AFTER ASSEMBLY.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
