What’s wrong with it?

THE STRIPPED MOUNTING CALIPER NUT DOES NOT PROPERLY ENGAGE ONTO THE BOLT AND ALLOWS THE CALIPER TO COME APART CREATING A LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

CERTAIN DEXTER AXLE TRAILER AXLES MODELS D60, D70, AND D80 EQUIPPED WITH DISC BRAKES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN FEBRUARY 1 AND MARCH 16, 2006, INSTALLED AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON CERTAIN TRAILERS AND SOLD AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
