The short answer

NHTSA received SALEEN, INC.’s report on Feb 10, 2005. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

INAPPROPRIATE, NON-STANDARD SIDE MARKER LIGHTS COULD REDUCE VISIBILITY OF VEHICLES AND INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR A CRASH.

CERTAIN TWO-SEATER COUPES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, “LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.” THE FRONT SIDE MARKER LIGHT, THAT IS BEHIND THE FRONT WHEEL, NEEDS TO BE AS FAR FORWARD ON THE VEHICLE AS PRACTICAL.

What should you do?

DEALERS WILL CHANGE THE DESIGN TO HAVE THE FRONT SIDE MARKER LIGHT IN FRONT OF THE WHEEL AND ON THE SIDE OF THE BUMPER. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN APRIL 2005. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SALEEN AT 949-597-3837.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
