The short answer

NHTSA received AMERICAN REMANUFACTURERS, INC.’s report on Sep 14, 2005. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

IF THE BOLT BREAKS AND THE CALIPER BECOMES UNANCHORED, A VEHICLE CRASH COULD OCCUR.

CERTAIN ARI CALIPER BOLTS WITH GOLD BOLT HEADS AND HEAD MARKINGS OF “10.9 & FMI” SOLD WITH BRAKE CALIPER REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT WHICH HAVE A BUILD CODE BETWEEN JUNE 7 AND JUNE 24, 2005.

DUE TO AN EMBRITTLEMENT CONDITION, THESE BOLTS MAY BREAK WITHOUT WARNING AND THE CALIPER COULD BECOME UNANCHORED FROM THE MOUNTING BRACKET, POSSIBLY IMPAIRING THE BRAKING ABILITY OF THE VEHICLE.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
