The short answer

NHTSA received HOLLAND USA, INC.’s report on Apr 11, 2005. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 28, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

IF A CASTING BREAKS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING ON A ROADWAY, THE BROKEN PIECES CAN BECOME PROJECTILES AND CAN POSSIBLY CAUSE A VEHICLE CRASH OR CAUSE INJURIES. ALSO, THE TRANSVERSE BEAM MAY DROP DOWN LOW ENOUGH TO CONTACT THE ROAD SURFACE CAUSING SPARKS THAT COULD POSSIBLY IGNITE A FIRE.

CERTAIN HOLLAND AD SERIES SUSPENSIONS AND TRANSVERSE BEAM/SUB-ASSEMBLIES WITH TRANSVERSE BEAM CASTINGS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JANUARY 1 AND DECEMBER 31, 2004, FOR USE IN HEAVY TRUCKS AND EMERGENCY VEHICLES.

THE CASTINGS WERE NOT MADE TO SPECIFICATIONS AND MAY FRACTURE UNDER NORMAL LOADS.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which ones, by part or lot: the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site gives them where the maker did; this file gives part numbers only where its maker listed them.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
