The short answer

NHTSA received INTERNATIONAL TRUCK & ENGINE CORPORATION’s report on Oct 27, 2004. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 27, 2026.

Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.

What’s wrong with it?

THIS CONNECTION COULD FAIL IF THE NUTS WORKED THEIR WAY LOOSE OR OFF, OR THE BOLTS BROKE FROM FATIGUE. A FAILURE OF THESE FASTENERS COULD RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE MAIN SUPPORT FROM THE HANGER BRACKET POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.

ON CERTAIN TRUCKS BUILT WITH IROS REAR AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEMS, FOUR REAR SUSPENSION FASTENERS MAY NOT BE TIGHTENED SUFFICIENTLY.

THIS HARDWARE CONNECTS THE MAIN SUPPORT MEMBERS OF THE REAR SUSPENSION TO THE HANGER BRACKETS.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
  • This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
