The short answer
NHTSA received HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)’s report on Jun 25, 2004. Copied from NHTSA on Oct 20, 2026.
Every line below is in NHTSA’s own words, with its source beside it.
What’s wrong with it?
OVER TIME, A BOLT CAN LOOSEN AND FALL OUT. THE MAIN STAND COULD PARTIALLY OR COMPLETELY DETACH FROM THE FRAME, INTERFERING WITH OR DAMAGING THE REAR WHEEL, AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH WITHOUT WARNING. A COMPLETELY DETACHED STAND FALLING ON THE ROADWAY ALSO CREATES A HAZARD FOR OTHER VEHICLES.
ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE MAIN STAND IS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME WITH TWO BRACKETS, NUTS AND BOLTS.
THE NUTS ARE SPOT-WELDED TO THE BRACKETS.
IF CLEARANCE EXISTS BETWEEN THE NUT AND BRACKET, THE SPOT WELDS MAY BE BROKEN WHEN THE BOLT IS TORQUED.

What the record doesn’t say
- NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
- Whether one vehicle or seat has been fixed: only its maker, or NHTSA’s lookup with a VIN, can say.
- This recall names only model years before 2015, which have no pages here. Your VIN, at NHTSA, says which recalls are open on a vehicle.
- How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
