What’s wrong with it?

THIS CONDITION COULD RESULT IN A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.

CERTAIN AFTERMARKET MICHELIN BFGOODRICH, UNIROYAL, LIBERATOR, MEDALIST, PHANTOM, AND PROSPECTOR BRAND TIRES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN APRIL 11 AND APRIL 24, 2004.

THE TIRES WILL MANIFEST A LACK OF ADHESION BETWEEN THE STEEL BELT CORDS AND THE SURROUNDING RUBBER MATRIX WHICH COULD LEAD TO A TREAD/BELT DETACHMENT.

What the record doesn’t say

  • NHTSA’s recall file doesn’t say whether anyone was hurt.
  • Which tires, by their DOT codes: the range is in the recall’s report on NHTSA’s site, not in this file. Check the code on your tire’s sidewall against it.
  • How many have been returned or fixed isn’t in the notice.
